The makers of unlocked cell phones accessories and applications, prepaid and postpaid - including Nokia as foremost name in this space - welcome any good opportunity to showcase their new innovations and what better place than the world’s greatest mobile event, 3GSM World Congress or Mobile World Congress. The biggest trade show was held in Barcelona, Spain that culminated on 19th February 2009 after a four-day spectacular exhibition of the latest in smartphones and wireless Internet connected devices. The world’s greatest mobile phone manufacturers and network operators traditionally get together to showcase and gauge the market with cutting edge technologies as preparation to introduce these into the US cellular arena.

The World Mobile Congress this time round saw great influx of touch screen technology but Apple was conspicuous by its absence. Although the revolutionary iPhone manufacturer did not attend the event, it still stole the limelight because of its extraordinary App Store. This on its own set the ball rolling for all the major manufacturers and operators alike, namely Nokia, T-Mobile, Orange, Telefonica and Microsoft, all of which came forward and announced their respective App Store versions. Moreover, many new GSM phones scheduled to be released in 2009 and 2010 are touch screen phones and promise to offer some really exciting touchscreen based applications. Sony introduced Idou, a 12-megapixel camera equipped smartphone with touch screen using the Symbian operating system. Samsung and HTC came up with high definition phones. Opera has also unveiled Turbo browser for its customers using Opera desktop, SDK and Opera mobile. Among the usual flurry of exhibitions and showcases, the announcement of LG and Microsoft’s strategic alliance took a big share of the pie. They have come together to produce 10 LG Windows’s mobile phones whose number is expected to increase to 26 by 2012. Major companies like AT&T providing prepaid and postpaid services, Ericsson, Microsoft Corp., MySpace, Nokia, Telefonica, Telenor, Verizon prepaid and Vodafone vied for predominant unlocked cell phones presence.

Last but certainly not least, the Nokia impact on the congress needs to be singled out for special attention. Nokia Roadmap 2009 revealed a very interesting and exclusive range of unlocked cell phones - some of them laced with features linked into wireless Internet technology. “Explore” unlocked Nokia phones range having N85, N850, N900, and N82 will be pushed in first half of 2009 and later Nokia N series flagship will be floated. The “Live” unlocked Nokia cell new range launch due in late 2009 will have Virginia 8800 Arte, Gina 8800 Black Arte and Sapphire 7310 SuperNova. Some of the other new Nokia cell phones in 2009 are Zirconia 7210 SuperNova, Stingray 5000 and Kiev 707 models. The impressive 2G and 3G network connect series contain new Nokia slide phones like Nokia 6600 Slide, Nokia 6500 SlideMadeline is mid range close associate of Nokia N97.
